Meet our panelists:
Elizabeth Hocker, M.Ed., LPC, is the founder of Brave Counseling and Psychiatry. Brave is a small private practice committed to exceptional services, specializing in women’s issues. Our mission is empowering women to embrace their worth and create deep, meaningful relationships. Elizabeth’s passion is creating a sustainable modern, inclusive wellness center where you are free to be yourself. She has special training in trauma and PTSD, anxiety, depression, and ADHD. Prior to creating Brave, Elizabeth started a successful solo private counseling practice in Columbia, MO. She has worked as a therapist in an inpatient treatment facility for substance use. Elizabeth loves spending time with her husband, going on nature walks, swimming, and trying new local restaurants. The things she misses most since COVID is being able to travel and experience new cultures.
Beth Orns, LCSW, is a therapist at Brave Counseling, where she specializes in helping women address their challenges and reach their potential. Beth has specialized training in Postpartum Mental Health and working with pre-teens/teens with autism and anxiety, depression, or ADHD and their parents. She is passionate about helping each person meet their goals and identify strategies and resources that will help them live their best life. Prior to coming to Brave, Beth has worked as a social worker/manager at MUPC, Biggs Forensic Center, and several community-based programs in Illinois. Beth is a member of a local MOPS leadership team. She enjoys spending time with her two sons (4 & 12) and husband, cooking/baking, and reading. The thing she misses most since COVID is being able to spend time with friends in the community.
Debi Hake is the owner and founder of Marriage & Family Counseling Center, as well as a counselor and marriage therapist, speaker and adjunct professor for Central Methodist University. She earned a Master’s degree in both Licensed Professional Counselor and Marriage and Family Therapy from Stephens College. Debi has a passion for helping individuals, marriages and families achieve healthy lives and relationships. She believes that emotional, physical, mental and spiritual health all play a large part in creating healthy individuals, which in turn create healthy relationships. Debi offers counseling for individuals and couples, lunch & learns, workshops, seminars and retreats on a variety of mental health topics.
John Shrum spent many years as a business owner. He owned and managed a multi-million dollar construction company, commercial day care, insulation company and single- and multi-unit apartment rentals. He has always sold for and managed the companies he owns. He also trained and directed many employees. John opened a Sandler Training franchise in 2001 and operated it until 2008. He found his passion in helping people reach their goals. In fact, his statement is “my goal is simple – I want to help you reach yours.” In 2008 John continued his vision by accepting a position coaching Sandler franchises across the US and Canada, where he has served as Director of Operations for 17 years.
