Employer: SOA Architecture

Hometown: Marshall

First Job: In high school I was the Ice Cream (wo)Man Cruisin’ the neighborhoods of Marshall in an old box truck that had been converted into an Ice Cream Truck – 3-speed on the column with a pesky clutch – ringing a brass bell all the way.  Bomb-pop anyone?

Awards/Recognitions: Of the awards and recognitions we have received, I’m most proud of SOA’s National Philanthropy Day 2019 Outstanding Small Business Award that recognized us for our 30 Acts of Kindness.  SOA performed 30 different charitable initiatives throughout our 30th year of business.  Together our team donated funds and over 500 hours of service toward some amazing non-profits including but not limited to The Food Bank, Voluntary Action Center, Habitat for Humanity, United Way, Special Olympics, Rainbow House, Job Point, United Community Builders, Turning Point, and The Wardrobe.

What is the best piece of advice someone has given you?

On multiple occasions I have been encouraged (sometimes ‘pushed’) to venture outside of my comfort zone and say ‘yes’ to opportunities that scare me!  I’ve come to believe that failures make for wonderful learning opportunities and exponential growth and I’ve come to believe that the biggest risk is in not taking any risk.

What is something that brings you joy? Watching my three (almost) adult children grow, become independent, and succeed in their own unique ways brings me the greatest joy! I love being their mama!
