Chair’s Corner: Expressing Gratitude

By Liz Townsend Bird, The Food Bank for Central & Northeast Missouri, Women’s Network Chair

Gratitude: the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness.

I recently completed a three-day yoga retreat. Yoga is new for me. It was hard and my body hurts, but my head and my heart feel refreshed and rejuvenated, and I am filled with gratitude. So, with Thanksgiving right around the corner, I’d like to share some words of gratitude with our Women’s Network community.

First, I want to say thank you to all our members. By joining Women’s Network, you are investing in the professional development of yourself as well as the community. When we gather for our monthly luncheons, meetings, and special events, I am inspired by the way you support one another and forge new connections. The true value of this organization is in the relationships – personal and professional – as we encourage one another to be the best we can be. Thank you for your commitment to Women’s Network.

Next, I am grateful for those who have served in a leadership role in previous years. For over 40 years, Women’s Network has benefited from your guidance and vision to empower women leaders. Personally, I have learned a great deal from many of our past presidents and chairs. I love hearing about the evolution of Women’s Network from our previous leaders and longtime members. I am honored to be among a group of women who support me. Thank you for your role in cultivating leaders in our community.

Finally, I am grateful for our current Women’s Network Leadership Team and committee members. You are the leaders who have been working hard to reestablish our momentum following over a year of pandemic protocols. Meaningful engagement is a critical component for the future of Women’s Network, and I am excited about the work we’ve just begun to solicit input from our members about what’s important to them. I value your role in this transition year as we plan for the future.

My gratitude list is long. I have a loving, supportive family, a fulfilling career, a roof over my head and food on my table. The relationships and opportunities I have gained through Women’s Network make my list even more valued. I am blessed beyond measure. Thank you!

Wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving filled with gratitude,

Liz Townsend Bird
