Get to know Michele Batye with Dave Griggs’ Flooring America for this week’s Women in Business spotlight.
Q: How long has Dave Griggs’ Flooring America been in business?
A: We have been providing friends and neighbors with flooring solutions since 1975.
Q: What made you decide to become an owner of Dave Griggs’ Flooring America?
A: I am the second-generation owner of Dave Griggs’ Flooring America. The original founder, Dave Griggs, began the company with the simple mission of building trust, one floor at a time. My team and I live that statement every day, by building on the success of providing good quality products, outstanding service, and good corporate citizenship to the community.
Q: What kind of amenities and services does Dave Griggs’ Flooring America offer?
A: We are a part of a cooperative of more than 500 independent retailers nationwide and have access to an extensive selection of flooring. This includes hardwood, carpet, tile & stone, luxury vinyl, laminate, countertops, specialty flooring and design and installation services.
Q: What makes Dave Griggs’ Flooring America stand out from other businesses like it?
A: We feel that flooring should be more than aesthetic and are dedicated to helping you find the flooring that is functional for your environment and lifestyle. As we are locally owned and operated, we have a dedicated staff of professional Interior Designer’s and Project Managers ready to help you with your project, whether it is new home construction, residential remodel, or commercial applications. We even offer a full line of professional tools and supplies for the installation trade.
Q: How do you connect with the community?
A: My staff and I are active citizens in Columbia and surrounding communities, giving time, talents and donations to countless non-profits and civic organizations. Over the years we have come together as a team to raise money for organizations like United Way, Ronald McDonald House, Boys and Girls Club, The Food Bank, Mobility Worldwide, Central Missouri Humane Society as well as many FFA, 4-H and athletic programs. We are also a part of the Business Loop Community Improvement District, where I am currently Vice Chair. Each team member emerges themselves into their interests and is encouraged to join clubs and boards that have significant meaning to them those range from the Alzheimer Association, the Elks Lodge, local Faith Communities, and the Chamber of Commerce.
Q: What else would you like our Women’s Network members to know about your business?
A: I personally attribute the Women’s Network for so much of my own professional and personal growth. As a guest at my very first luncheon, I never could have dreamed I would be the Chair, own and operate my own business, or be next in line to be Chair of the Chamber of Commerce, but with the encouragement of the network I did it! I encourage everyone to embrace their membership to the fullest: attend the lunch; join the committee; be a mentee then be a mentor; fill out that application for the Leadership Program; step up to Steering; embrace the mission to Connect, Empower and Engage; then cheer on someone else in your organization to do the same. Reach out to myself, Mary Garrity or Nicole Oidtman at any time for more information on our experience with the Women’s Network or Dave Griggs’ Flooring America.
