Tania Cook

Tania Cook was born in Knoxville, Iowa, and was raised on a farm just south of Knoxville. She attended school at Indian Hills Community College, receiving her Associate’s degree and then went on to Truman State where she finished a BSE in Business and Office Education. Her degree made her a perfect fit for a career with Job Point. She started with them in 1985, and is still with them today, so she must love what she does! She is a Skills Training Coordinator/Academic Advisor. She works with the students enrolled in their skills training programs, which helps students work through the admittance, financial assistance and the job placement process. Tania also provides support for all of the instructors and teaches some courses as well.

What keeps Tania going? She attributes her success in this field to seeing her students become successfully employed. She has witnessed their personal transition because they have decided to make improvements in their lives, and is motivated by helping these people find a little bit of hope and encouragement because that goes a long way in improving their lives.

Tania is a teacher for some of the courses offered at Job Point, but she is also a life-long learner. She has gone back to school two more times since her college graduation in 1985. She went to Drake University to get her Coaching Certification in 1985, and then to University of Missouri from 2003-2005 to receive her Rehabilitation Administration Certification.

In her spare time, Tania participates on a women’s bowling league, and attends as many athletic events as possible since she is sort of a sports fanatic. She played six player basketball in high school and was a guard, which meant she never got to shoot a basket! She only played defense on one end of the court.

Tania loves to serve, and most people would describe her as a giving person. She is on the National Alumni Board for Truman State, and serves on the Mid-Missouri Chapter Board. She is a member of the Elks Lodge 594 and is an Esteemed Loyal Knight. She is the First Vice President of the Columbia USBC Association, serves as the secretary of the Heart of Missouri Chapter of the Missouri Rehabilitation Association, and is treasurer of the Show-Me the Money Investment Club. And for kicks, she is in a fun social group of friends called the D.O.L.L.S., which does events throughout the year for charities in the Columbia area.

As for her involvement with Women’s Network, Tania has been a member for four years, and is currently serving as the Co-Chair for the Changing the Odds Committee. So if you want to get more involved in WN yourself, or in Columbia, Tania would be the perfect person to talk to at the next WN luncheon or event!
