Lisa Rohmiller
Lisa Rohmiller has been the Program Assistant with the City of Columbia’s Volunteer Program since July of 2010. She happily spends her days managing a dynamic group of volunteers involved in a wide variety of interests, everything from TreeKeepers to those who staff Columbia’s Visitor Center and much more. Born in Sedalia, she was raised in Columbia and is a Hickman grad. A desire to take a year off before starting college led to a broad range of work experiences that helps her to appreciate others. She says, “I feel like I’ve been in everybody’s shoes!”
One of her favorite jobs was Courier for the Tribune. She met so many people in the organization and formed lasting friendships. Her greatest career learning experience came in Residential Lending at Jefferson Bank in JC. Her manager was what can only be termed as “strict,” a very conservative, traditional leader, and a great teacher and mentor, so high-level customer service and professionalism became ingrained in her. She has mortgage lending experience, factory experience, food service management, and bartending experience, newspaper-throwing experience… In 2009, she began her journey with the City, working with volunteers, as part-time assistant in the Solid Waste Division’s Recycling Department. Although recycling is her passion, the satisfaction she gets from working with volunteers led her to jump at the chance to work with a broader group in her current position.
Now that she is back in Columbia, she is able to spend more time with her son, John, who attends Rock Bridge High School, and has become active in volunteering. She also has more time with her Mom, and her boyfriend, James, the love of her life! She joined Women’s Network in May 2011 and worked with the Changing the Odds seminar in October. She feels the services provided to seminar attendees are crucial for their job search and professional development. Lisa is the incoming co-chair of the Columbia Volunteer Network and serves as Community Advisor to Alpha Phi Omega co-ed service fraternity at MU. She enjoys volunteering for the Voluntary Action Center’s Christmas program and Tiger Treasures and is an avid recycler. In her spare time, she loves to cook. She would love to open a café serving her specialties. She also enjoys traveling, reading, and gets great enjoyment from attending Woodcrest Chapel.
