Brandi Spurling, our new Director of Women’s Network, is a joy to spend time with. Her welcoming smile and genuine conversation makes getting to know her a delight! Friends use words like “confident”, “positive”, and “funny” to describe her. After graduating from the University of Central Missouri with a Bachelor’s degree in both Spanish and Theatre, she chose to start her career while pursuing a Master’s degree in Strategic Leadership at Stephens College. She admits that she loves the extra time after graduating with her Master’s in December, but her passion for learning new things has her missing the challenge! (Well, now she leads an organization of 500 men and (mostly) women… a challenge for sure!) Next on her list, adult gymnastics class. (Go Brandi, go!) Brandi is passionate about being a part of organizations that have a clear focus on celebrating women and foster an encouraging environment! (Guess she’s in the right place, huh!) Brandi’s husband, Chris, is a firefighter for the City of Columbia. They have three furry children: Simon Berry Blue, the Great Dane; and cats, Pablo Purrcasso and Salvador Pawli. She loves naps in her hammock out in the country, creative writing, and when Simon takes her for walks 😉 Fun fact about Brandi; her first job was at McDonald’s when she was just 15!
Currently reading: Endurance: A Year in Space, a Lifetime of Discovery, by Scott Kelly
Currently watching: ‘This is Us’ for a good cry, and ‘Speechless’ for a good laugh
Currently listening to (or favorite song): Any sappy Spanish love song. I was a huge fan of “Despacito” before it came to the US!
Place you want to visit: Machu Picchu in Peru
Favorite part about Women’s Network: Most notably, I love how welcoming each and every person has been in my transition. I am a huge proponent of women building up women, so any organization that works toward such a goal is golden in my eyes. I also love the community spirit, specifically the work Changing the Odds does in helping educate women who are interested in joining, or re-joining the workforce.
New Year’s Resolution: I plan to donate to a different organization each month (first up is the Rainbow House, if you’d like to join me!)
