Well, here we go.

That is the best way I know to start this. Here’s why.

I’m an all-in, give-it-all-I’ve-got, completely passionate and sometimes overwhelming kind of gal. I go big or I go home. Mostly, I just go big.

When reflecting on what I wanted to leave as my mark on my year as Women’s Network Chair, I discovered that I wanted to help people find their courage to take the next big step — whatever that might be for them. I want to help people go big.

Now, I know that as some of you read this, you’ve gotten a giant lump in your throat and have already started to panic. In fact, you may already be hiding under your chair. Others are saying, “Heck yeah! Let’s go! Where are we going?” Clearly, this is because we are all different. We bring our unique personalities and experiences with us on this journey. “Going big” can sound really terrifying to someone who is still trying to summon the courage to come to a luncheon.

So here’s what we are going to do: We are going to be okay with “Going big” meaning something very different for all of us, but I’m going to challenge you to find yours. What will it be? Will it be volunteering in a group that you’ve always admired from afar? Will it be asking your boss to give you more responsibility? Or will it mean saying no to things and putting healthy boundaries in place for your work and your home life? I know that sounds pretty counter-intuitive to what we are saying, but self-care might be the most important thing we do. Be assured, I will encourage you (who am I kidding — I’ll push you) to make that next big step.

If even one person says they were inspired to take another step in their own personal, professional, or leadership development because of this encouragement, I will leave the office raising my martini glass and toasting to a successful year.
